# How much does a mural cost? 2026 pricing guide and what affects the price

The first question I always get from a client is the same: *"How much will it cost?"* That's understandable – everyone wants to know whether their idea fits the budget before even starting a conversation about colours or style. The problem is, an answer like *"between 150 and 800 PLN per m²"* doesn't tell you much if you don't know what's hidden behind that range.
In this article, I break mural pricing down into its core components – so you can estimate where on this scale your wall will land.
## Current mural prices in Poland (2026)
The Polish mural market – both interior and exterior – moves within a fairly broad price range. Based on current offers from artists and studios:
- **Simple motifs, large background surfaces (Tier I):** 150–250 PLN/m² (~€35–60)
- **Children's, fairytale, geometric motifs (Tier II):** 250–400 PLN/m² (~€60–95)
- **Landscapes, botanicals, trompe l'oeil (Tier II):** 400–600 PLN/m² (~€95–140)
- **Photorealism, portraits, dynamic scenes (Tier III):** 600–900 PLN/m² (~€140–210)
- **Premium murals, bespoke concepts (Tier III):** 1,000–1,200 PLN/m² (~€235–280)
*Approximate EUR equivalents based on the exchange rate at the time of publication (~4.26 PLN/EUR, May 2026). Actual prices in PLN.*
My rates for clients in Kraków and Warsaw start at 150 PLN per m² for simple projects and reach 1,200 PLN per m² for bespoke murals with a high level of detail. Realistic projects or those with very fine detail are priced individually.
## 7 factors that genuinely influence the price
### 1. Design complexity
A simple background with two or three colours is a completely different effort than a realistic forest with a hundred branches and chiaroscuro shading. The more detail, the more hours – and an hour of an artist's work is the main component of the price.

### 2. Surface size
This is a paradox, but a larger wall often means a lower price per m². At 5 m², every square requires the same precise setup. At 30 m², preparation costs spread across a larger area. Discounts on larger commissions are typically 10–20%.
### 3. Wall condition
A freshly skim-coated, primed wall is the ideal starting point. A wall with unevenness, old oil-based paint, cracks, or damp requires additional preparation work – between 20 and 80 PLN per m² (~€5–20) depending on the condition.
### 4. Bespoke design vs ready-made motif
If a client comes with their own idea or finished artwork, we skip the concept phase. A bespoke design – created from scratch for a specific space – costs an additional 500–800 PLN (~€120–190) depending on scale. The design fee is included in the mural price if you proceed with the commission.

### 5. Location
Prices in Kraków and Warsaw are typically 15–25% higher than in smaller cities – this is due to higher living costs and greater demand on good artists. Travel beyond 30 km is sometimes priced separately.
### 6. Access difficulty
A living room wall is one thing. A stairwell, a second-floor façade, or a ceiling is an entirely different level of complexity – scaffolding or a lift adds 1,500–5,000 PLN (~€350–1,170) to the cost.

### 7. Protection and durability
An acrylic varnish protecting the mural from dirt and UV adds 20–40 PLN per m² (~€5–10) – but extends the mural's life from 5 years to up to 10–15 years.

## Why a cheap offer is usually the most expensive offer
I've seen it too many times. A client picks the cheapest contractor because *"everyone paints with paint, what's the difference?"* A year later the colours fade, cracks appear, the mural needs to be repainted or fixed. The cost of repairs is usually higher than the difference between a cheap and a professional offer at the start.
Professional execution means:
- high-quality paints, UV- and wash-resistant
- properly prepared substrate (this determines whether the mural "holds" on the wall)
- precise finishing of corners and edges
- protective varnish
- 7–15 year durability guarantee
## How to get an accurate quote
To give you a specific price, I need three things:
1. **Photos of the wall** – they show the condition, size, lighting, and interior context
2. **Dimensions** – height and width in cm
3. **Inspiration or a description of the idea** – Pinterest, photos, a description of the mood
Quotes are free and non-binding. In 90% of cases, I respond within 24 hours.
## Summary
A mural is an investment that – done well – works for you for over a decade.
There's no such thing as a *"universal price"* for a mural – every wall is a separate project. But knowing what affects the price, you can plan your budget consciously and avoid surprises.
